Learn About Your Choice Options

You have a choice between two FRS retirement plans:

  • The Investment Plan. This plan is designed primarily for employees who want greater control over their retirement plan and who want flexibility in how their benefit is paid at retirement.
  • The Pension Plan. This plan is designed for employees who want a guaranteed monthly retirement benefit and who are not comfortable with choosing investments and managing their own portfolio.

Both plans require you to contribute a fixed 3% of your salary, beginning with your first paycheck. Your employer also makes contributions to whichever plan you choose.

The New Hires page on MyFRS.com is home to resources to help you learn about each plan, including:

  • New hire video provides a short overview of the plans and tools available to you.
  • Side-by-side plan comparison lets you see the features of both plans side by side so you can compare the plans based on what matters most to you.

Call the MyFRS Financial Guidance Line at 1-866-446-9377, Option 2 (TRS 711) to speak with an experienced, unbiased financial planner. Planners can answer your questions about your retirement goals and choosing an FRS retirement plan, and there is no cost to you.

Select Compare to use the 1st Election Choice Service tool to get a personalized estimate of your benefit under each plan.
